The Local Area Network (LAN) is how COGS can communicate with COGS boxes and visa versa. Everything in COGS runs through the network (by network, we mean a local network that uses a DHCP router).
To connect a COGS box to the network:
- Plug the box into power (check the power specifications on the box manual).
- The status light should go RED.
- Connect one end of an ethernet cable to the Ethernet port (labelled).
- Connect the other end to your local network (this could be via a managed or unmanaged network switch or directly into the router).
- If the network is active:
- the status LED will flash BLUE, indicating that it needs to be assigned an IP.
- the status LED will go solid BLUE when your router has assigned it an IP address.
- Make sure your computer running COGS is connected to the same network as the box (either via network cable or WI-FI).
- N.B. we recommend you wire your computer to the network for the best results.
- In COGS, go to Devices and choose a virtual box to pair it to.
